Celebrity team wins T20 in Grenada

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada (CMC):

A celebrity eleven, led by former West Indies cricketer Junior Murray, defeated a Prime Minister's XI by 58 runs in a friendly T20 fixture here on the weekend.

The celebrity XI, which included former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh, posted a competitive 148 for three in their 20 overs at Progress Park in St Andrews, Grenada's eastern parish.

National player Akim Alexis led the way with an unbeaten 56, while former Grenada, Windward Islands and West Indies player Rawle Lewis hit an attractive 45.

The Prime Minister's X1 folded at 90 for nine in 19.3 overs with the number-11 batsman Raphael Brathwaite unable to bat because of an injury.

Only former Grenada and Wind-ward Islands batsman Steven Mahon provided any resistance with a fluent 30.

Former Dominica and Windward Islands off-spinner Thomas Kentish picked up two wickets while Walsh, Lewis and Murray grabbed a wicket each.

The match was part of celebrations marking Grenada's 40th anniversary of independence.
