Humble Lion earned a well-needed win after five previous failed attempts when they yesterday ambushed league leaders Harbour View 1-0 at the Effortville Community Centre.

The Geoffrey Maxwell-conditioned Humble Lion were led to victory by a Narado Brown (45+5) goal, which moved them four places up the 12-team standing to sixth on 24 points.

Despite the loss, Harbour View maintain their position atop the league on 37 points, but of great concern to coach Harold Thomas will be the fact that after a string of 13 games unbeaten they have failed to win in their last three games, losing two.

Maxwell does not believe the score reflects how comfortable his team was in victory.

"I think today has redeemed the confidence in the team," Maxwell said.

"The score does not reflect how easy the game was for us and I was a little surprised. The game this evening was very critical and I thought we should have won 3-0."

close the gap

Waterhouse capitalised on Harbour View's failings after edging Boys' Town 1-0 at the Drewsland Stadium. Damarley Samuels accounted for the game's lone goal with a 62nd-minute strike. The result has seen Waterhouse close the gap on the leaders to six points, as they sit third on 31 points.

Chevone Marsh netted twice to fire Cavalier up to fifth, as they got by Rivoli United 3-1 at the Prison Oval. Marsh scored his goals in the 19th and 84th minutes. Claudius Blackburn opened the scoring for Cavalier in the 11th minute, while Rivoli's consolation was netted by their leading talisman Devon Hodges (45+3).

The win pushed Cavalier two places up the standings to fifth with 25 points. Rivoli slipped three places to eighth on 23 points.

Portmore United's woeful season continued after they were clipped 1-0 at home by Tivoli Gardens. André McFarlane netted the game's lone goal in the 34th minute, as Tivoli progressed from eighth to sixth with 24 points.

Portmore remain in the drop zone as they are 11th on 21 points.

Sporting Central played to their third consecutive 0-0 draw after being held at home by the improving August Town. Sporting fall two places to eighth on 23 points, while August Town, who have now gone three games unbeaten, remain at the foot of the standings on 19 points.

Today's final match of the round will see second-place Montego Bay United (32) attempt to cut Harbour View's lead to two points when they travel away to fourth-place Arnett Gardens (27) at the Anthony Spaulding Complex, with game time set for 8:30 p.m.
