Leighton Levy, Star Writer
Most of Jamaica knows Denyque as the sexy singer/songwriter who has been on the rise over the past few years, capturing new fans with contemporary hits like Make Me Believe You and Super Girl. With this in mind, it could come as a surprise for them to see her being the host of Monday NightFootball when it begins airing on Television Jamaica tonight. Armed with a sweet voice that can be heard on her EP Her Name is Denyque, and good looks, the multitalented singer plans on luring Jamaica's football-mad fans into her world for the remainder of the Red Stripe Premier League 2013/2014 season. "I will be trying my best to bring life and a funky vibe (to the broadcast). I am going to put my personality into it, being myself and interacting with people," she said. She auditioned for the part about a month ago before Delano Forbes and Brian St. Juste and wowed them. The Phase 3 producers thought she had the perfect personality and everything else they required. "She was recommended to us and she did a casting and she was fantastic," St Juste said. "She was comfortable and she brought a style and energy to the role that we thought would work well for what we are trying to accomplish." A long-time fan of Manchester United, Denyque grew up a tomboy and even played football while attending school. She says this new opportunity gives her the platform to be a step closer to one of her life's ambitions. "My goal is not just to be known as singer/songwriter but to be known as a role model," she said. "To me it's all about branching out into other fields." The multitalented entertainer who has also released the singles All Night Long, Revenge, and Hooked On Me, can also lay claim to a song called Ball a Roll, which will be the theme song for the Monday Night broadcast. "My manager, Jade Lee, had suggested to the producers that I could write the song. Conroy Forte of Washroom Entertainment along with Phase 3 did the music," she said. "The first time I heard it, it was the first time in a long while that I didn't have writer's block. I could hear everything my brothers said when they were going to watch football. Everything came so fluently. I heard the track and we recorded two days later. Thankfully, Red Stripe loved it," she said. According to St Juste, Denyque will be featured singing the song during the opening montage and will be integrated with images of the players and fans. |
