Jamaican sprinter Sherone Simpson will continue her defence in front of a three-member Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel at the Jamaica Conference Centre today, after testing positive for oxilofrine at last year's National Championships.

The sprinter has already testified in the case which had two previous sittings on January 6 and 7. The panel has also heard evidence from Simpson's manager Paul Doyle, her former MVP Track Club stablemate Asafa Powell, who also tested positive for the substance and biochemist Dr Wayne McLaughlin.

Doping Control Officer Dr Paul Wright is expected to be called to the stand today in the case, which is expected to be wrapped up tomorrow.

providing evidence

Simpson, a 100m silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, spent just under two hours providing evidence during the last hearing on January 7, when she denied knowingly taking the banned substance.

The 29-year-old, supported by information from the others, testified that the substance was present in the supplement Epiphany D1, which was a part of her new regimen.

Simpson told the panel, which is chaired by former Director of Public Prosecution Lennox Gayle and completed by one-time FIFA referee Peter Prendergast and physician Dr Japheth Ford.

The sprinter is one of five Jamaicans who tested positive for banned substances at last year's National Championships. There were also positive tests for sprinting great Veronica Campbell-Brown and tae kwon do Olympian Kenneth Edwards.
