O'Hara not moving to Racers

Whispers in local track and field circles silenced

Rumours that the 17-year-old Calabar standout Michael O'Hara was training with the Glen Mills-led Racers Track Club, have been put to rest by a club insider.

When Star Sports made checks into rumours that the 2013 IAAF World Youth Championships 200m gold medal winner was spotted at the training base of sprinting superstars Usain Bolt, Warren Weir and Yohan Blake at the University of the

West Indies-based club, the well-placed source advised that the promising young sprinter had only paid a visit to members of the club to receive therapy on an injury.

injured himself

The source, who asked not to be named, sought to clarify the situation, noting that O'Hara had injured himself while competing at the Douglas Forrest Development meet on January 11 and was told afterwards that he could receive massage therapy at the club.

"I don't know about that (O'Hara training at Racers)," the source said. "As far as I know he came to use one of our masseurs."

"He was hurt at the Douglas Forrest meet.I saw him (at Racers) and asked what he was doing there and I was told that he came for treatment for someone to treat his leg. He came maybe three days or so for treatment," the source added.

O'Hara, who has personal best times of 10.39 (100m) and 20.63 (200m) is conditioned by Calabar and Akon Track Club head coach Michael Clarke, who could not be reached for comment yesterday.
