Fraser-Pryce

It has now become customary for double Olympic sprint Champion and Triple World Champion, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to open her season at The Queen's/Grace Jackson Meet, but what is different about this year is that she will be lining up in the 60-metres dash.

The 60-metres was this year added to the list of the events normally contested at the meet, to be held at the National Stadium on Saturday, to commemorate The Queen's School's 60th anniversary. The addition of the race comes at an ideal time, as Fraser-Pryce and some of her MVP teammates are preparing to contest the event at the World Indoor Championships to be held in Sopot, Poland from March 7-9.

tremendous competition

"It is always the first meet for me for the year and it will be my first race since the World Championships and everything that has happened," Fraser-Pryce shared. "I am looking forward to it because I want to know where I am in terms of training and how training has been going."

The IAAF World Female Athlete of the Year does not anticipate tremendous competition at the meet, however, but believes her first true test will come on February 15 when she lines up in the 60m at the Sainsbury's Indoor Grand Prix to be held at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena.

going away

"I don't think a lot of athletes will actually be coming to run the 60 metres (at The Queen's/Grace Jackson meet)," Fraser-Pryce reasoned. "But I will be going away to compete in some 60 metres, which I know will provide huge competition and I will get to see where exactly I am. The plan is to do the World Indoor Championships, so I will just be working towards that."

Fraser-Pryce will be joined in the 60 metres on Saturday by clubmate Carrie Russell, while Nesta Cater will face the starters in the male equivalent confirmed MVP head coach, Stephen Francis.

"Shelly running the 60m at Queens, as well as Nesta and Carrie," Francis shared. "The three of them are going to be running indoors this year and Kaliese (Spencer) who is going to be running the 400m, so we will see how that goes."
