A lavish home in an upscale St Andrew community seemingly abandoned by its owner, a former heavyweight boxer has become a haven for thieves who constantly break into the house and steal anything from appliances to furniture.

THE STAR understands that neighbours are fearful that they may directly or indirectly come in contact with robbers, some of whom are even seen during the act, who at their own risk disobey the private property sign, and prey on the unoccupied home for fixtures and fittings that are of value.

Our news team gathered from residents that the once lavish home is owned by a former professional boxer.

According to the neighbours, the boxer has not been seen anywhere near the home for over two-and-a-half-years.

A resident who declined to be named said, "He usually have some big dogs over there, but they have either died of age or were poisoned. He is a man that normally move back and forth to Jamaica. He would normally come and ensure that things are up to par, but his long absence has somehow signalled to perpetrators that they can enter and remove everything."

THE STAR learnt that the latest removal of appliances from the home was undertaken last week by a group of men. It was revealed that a truck was reversed into the yard and men began briskly loading the truck.

Another neighbour said, "At the rate of how dem a move out the things dem ... not a thing probably leave in there. Dem move out washing machine, microwave, tv, computers and anything weh a expensive home may have that you can think about."

When THE STAR visited the home yesterday, there were signs that the vandals had already taken steps to remove some of the French windows from the three-storey home.

Our news team was told by residents that as a result of the home being apparently emptied where appliances were concerned, there were clear signals that thieves were now going for the windows.

THE STAR tried to get in contact with the owner but all attempts were unsuccessful. Residents also say they have not been able to get in touch with the boxer for sometime now.

When THE STAR contacted the Stony Hill Police, our news team was told by a senior officer that no formal report had been made in relation to theft.

The officer said, "Our community intelligence has brought certain happenings to our attention but no formal report from any residents or the owner."
