Innocent until proven guilty - Goodison free to play for Rovers says manager

Ian 'Pepe' Goodison

Under fire Jamaica international Ian Goodison will not be prevented from playing for English League One team Tranmere Rovers, while out on bail in relation to spot-fixing charges.

Goodison teammate Akpo Sodje and his brother Sam Sodje, Oldham striker Cristian Montano, Blackburn's DJ Campbell along with a businessman, were among six detained by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers last week. The 41-year-old Jamaican, however, has been strongly supported by his club, who insist that neither will face sanctions until it is proven that they are guilty.

"I spoke to both of them over the phone and they assured me that they have done nothing, and I have to take that as the truth, until somebody tells me different," Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore told Sky Sports.

"It's difficult but the good thing about this country is that you are innocent until proven guilty, so we are taking it that there's no truth in what's been said.

"If it comes out that there are one or two things that they have done, then obviously the whole situation changes. At this present time, we put our arms around them and we get going."

Goodison is, however, currently unavailiable due to injury.
