Greater Portmore Primary shrugged off a sluggish start to lift the INSPORTS Portmore Primary Netball League title with an exciting 11-8 extra-time win over favourites, Naggo Head, in the final at the Independence City Primary Court last Wednesday. Greater Portmore, with an 8-2 win-loss record, came into the finals as the underdogs as Naggo Head had earlier dismissed them 17-8 and 13-7 in two previous meetings. Naggo Head, which came into the final undefeated, led 3-1 at half-time and 5-3 at the end of the third quarter. The teams were locked at 7-7 at the end of regulation time, but the victors outscored their opponents 4-1 in the bonus period to prevail by three points. Substitute goal shoot, Bianca Brown, came on in the fourth quarter to change the game, scoring four goals, while goal attack, Britney Smith also scored four goals, and Kimoya Shirley, the starting goal shoot, scored three goals. Kayla Fagan led Naggo Head with six goals. Independence City Primary took third place as they defeated Portsmouth 11-7. Greater Portmore's Krissan Russell, the centre, was given MVP of the final. Independence City Primary was the most improved school for the competition. |
