RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer
A St Catherine man who told a woman that she was about to be killed and that to protect her, he would be requesting $25,000 for her protection was given two years suspended sentence for his effort. Daniel McKenzie, labourer in Spanish Town, St Catherine, was told by the resident magistrate that he had committed a serious offence. However, since he did not waste the court's time, a non-custodial sentence would be given. The facts are that the accused man approached the complainant and convinced her that she was in danger. Having made the request, however, the woman reported the matter to the police and an investigation was launched which resulted in McKenzie being charged with extortion. |
