Student on fraud rap remanded
The university student who was nabbed in connection with a report made by a US resident that he scammed her money after pretending that she had won a contest was again remanded until tomorrow when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Carlyle Cameron is charged with conspiracy to defraud and attempting to obtain money by false pretence.

The Crown is alleging that some time ago, Cameron contacted the complainant by telephone claiming that she had won a contest and that she had to send money to facilitate the redemption of the prize money. The complainant then sent money through remittance services on separate occasions to which he collected.

On one occasion, the police were brought in after the cambio became suspicious and Cameron was arrested and charged.

During court proceedings yesterday, it was also revealed that a cell phone, allegedly recovered from the accused, possessed a video recording of a shooting incident. However, investigators are requesting more time to analyse the footage.

Attorneys representing the accused argued that the claims being made by the prosecution are spurious. Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams said that there were several questions that were unanswered and, as a result, ordered that he be brought back to court on Friday.
