Accused held for fake goods gets bail extended

A Chinese national who is accused of selling products marked Benjamins Rubbing Alcohol which turned out to be false had her bail extended in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court until January 14.

She is Yu Wen, an operator of a wholesale establishment in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The court heard that on, October 8, police personnel from the Organised Crime Investigation Division carried out an operation at the wholesale, where they saw 46 cases of rubbing alcohol being displayed for sale.

Checks later revealed that they were not from the labelled company.

Wen was subsequently taken into custody. She has been charged with breaching the Trademark Act, Consumer Protection Act and Custom Excise Duty Act.

Wen's attorney, Lancelot Clarke Jr, told the court that his client had no intention of doing wrong and that she believed that it was a reputable supplier that she had bought the goods from.

Attorney-at-law Hadrian Christie is watching the proceedings on behalf of P.A Benjamin.
