Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town senior football team, says the loss of club stalwart Herbert 'Dago' Gordon affected his team's performance in Monday night's 0-0 draw against neighbouring Arnett Gardens, in the Red Stripe Premier League. Boys' Town were the host team, but the game played at Arnett's Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex venue lacked excitement and ended in a dull draw. "It was an emotional roller coaster coming off the death of Dago," Price told STAR Sports. Gordon, who was assistant coach of the team for 15 years, died last Sunday morning after being in a coma for five days from complications related to diabetes. "The team came out and wanted to win for Dago, but that didn't happen," Price said. "We played well defensively and I must commend the team. This is a young team and they should get better as the season progresses," he added. Meanwhile, Arnett Gardens picked up their first point since Jerome Waite took over from Calvin Lewis, who is now in charge at Portmore United. "Well, it was not so much of a spirited game. We gave Boys' Town too much respect," Waite, who guided Arnett to back-to-back national premier league titles (2000-01 & 2001-02), reasoned. "The team's fitness level is not where we want it to be yet. We played good defensively and need to improve on the offensive end," Waite pointed out. Both teams offered little in attack and spectators had little to cheer about. The game was concentrated in midfield and ended in a fair result for the two Trench Town clubs. Boys' Town moved on to nine points, seven behind leaders Montego Bay United, while Arnett pushed to six points and remain in 11th position in the 12-team league. In another game on Monday night, second placed Humble Lion and tenth placed Sporting Central battled to a 1-1 draw in the Clarendon derby at Effortville Community Center field. That was the first premier league night game hosted at Humble Lion's home venue. |
