Five held in airport drug bust

The Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division seized several pounds of illegal drugs following a major operation at the Norman Manley International Airport on Monday.

Reports are that five persons who arrived on a flight from Curaçao were searched. A Dutch male, and four Jamaicans (three males and a female) were allegedly discovered with drugs in their possession. They were arrested for breaches of the Dangerous Drug Act.

The following items were collectively seized from these individuals:

5.4 pounds (2.45 kilograms) of ganja, with a street value amounting to $27,000.

1.8 pounds (8.818 kilograms) of cocaine, valuing $820,000

US$903 (J$95,718)

A quantity of liquid cocaine packaged as anti-aging lotion.

All five persons are in police custody pending questioning; their identities are being withheld.
