Milk grateful for new opportunity - Enjoying her role as manager at Famous

Amelia 'Milk' Sewell - file

"Got Milk?" was the simple and highly effective question asked in that much loved 90's milk ad. The answer, however, didn't need to be spoken as the white, telltale mark, which coated the outer lips of the celebrities in the commercials, told the whole story. They definitely 'got milk'.

So, too, the celebrity-studded Famous Nightclub in Portmore. Famous has surely 'got milk', but of a slightly different variety. Milk comes in the form of the savvy and irrepressible Amelia 'Milk' Sewell, the thirty-something mother of one, who is as popular in entertainment circles as some of the celebrities with whom she rubs shoulders on a daily basis during her journalistic jaunts.

'The Milky One', as she is affectionately called, was specially chosen to manage Famous Nightclub, and it's a move by the club owners, the KLE Group, that has been endorsed by many.

So, how did Milk get involved in the Famous project? According to the KLE Group, they had a lot of faith in Milk being the ideal person to manage the club and she just happened to be available to work on the project.

in-the-streets knowledge

As Milk recalls, "Gary Matalon called me one day and asked me what my schedule was like work wise, and I said I have been free now for five years ... what's up? When he told me what he had in mind, I was excited to be considered the perfect person for the task at hand. He said with my knowledge and longevity in the entertainment biz, coupled with my in-the-streets knowledge of music and dancehall culture, I would be the perfect fit to take on Famous. The KLE Group was willing to give me the chance to open a new chapter in my life, so here I am with a grateful heart."

Following its much-talked-about opening in May, Famous has been on the entertainment radar in a huge way and is on its way to becoming the preferred party spot, and it's not just for partygoers in and around Portmore. Milk noted that everyone who is enveloped in the 'Famous Experience' is very impressed with what the KLE group has offered.

"The decor is very L.A., the ambiance is very Miami Beach, and the vibes is very high energy. Famous is exactly what Portmore needed now," she declared.

Portmore is described as an entertainment hub with its own unique flair, vogue, fashions, slang and sense of style, and the customer experience manager of Famous noted that the addition of the nightclub has created a greater synergy between the cultures of Kingston and that of Portmore.

"One only has to glance at the social media landscape to see the impact of Famous on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter," she stated.

With social media abuzz with Famous, Jamaicans overseas have already marked it as one of the 'must-do' things during their visit home. Promoters have been eyeing the club as a choice entertainment venue and the entertainment fraternity is giving Famous the 'full hundred' in terms of support.

With Milk in a managerial capacity, Famous is spelling success and doing it their way.

Milk noted: "I always love to be a part of something that is just starting. There is a certain amount of pride that is gained by watching something grow and know that you are part of something ground breaking. It is the same pride I feel to this day when I see how far Zip 103 fm has come and knowing I was there when the doors first opened and made my mark. I am hoping to do some groundbreaking things at Famous so that everyone who comes will know yea, .... the Milky One was here."
