Jamaica's Je-vaughn Watson - File PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC): The midfielder who scored Trinidad and Tobago's lone goal in their one-nil win over Jamaica in Montego Bay last Friday, says the Soca Warriors are capable of reproducing the winning performance in the return fixture tonight. Finnish-based Ataulla Guerra scored in the fifth minute for the Warriors who play the Reggae Boyz in the second of their two-match friendly at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain, Kick off time 7 p.m. (Ja time). "It was a pleasure to score for my country," Guerra said "It's been a while since we beat them in Jamaica, so it was a great honour for me and the team." The teams arrived in Port of Spain over the weekend from Montego Bay ahead of the match being played on the final FIFA international match day for 2013. "It's great to be back and to be appreciated by the association and the country," declared Ipswich Town midfielder Carlos Edwards. "I'm always excited to play before the home fans and even, moreso, after the boys pulled off the win on Friday." Edwards and Port Vale midfielder Chris Birchall will appear in tonight's match in an official send off, having retired from the international game earlier this year. "I know for a fact Jamaicans hate losing and they will be coming very hard at us on Tuesday to even things up," Edwards said. "I haven't played much against them in the past, but having been around our national team for so long, I know the rivalry is one of the biggest in football when you look at all the Confederations." Trinidad and Tobago's victory over Jamaica last Friday was the first since 2001. Meanwhile Je-Vaughn Watson who led the Reggae Boyz for the first time in last Friday's defeat, wants to gain quick revenge. "This was more than a game, it was a rivalry match. So it is not just about playing football, it takes heart and courage to win this game," Watson said after the game. The former Sporting Central Academy player, who is currently plying his trade for FC Dallas in Major League Soccer, said he is aware that Jamaican fans were disappointed after the failed 2014 World Cup campaign. "We know we did not play well in the qualifiers, and we know that people are still upset about it, but we still need the support of the fans." Watson plans to start the process of getting back the fans on the team's side with a win over Trinidad and Tobago in tonight's return match. "We have to go out there and win this game because they went to Jamaica and won," Watson said. "It is not easy to go overseas and win, but we think we are better than this Trinidad team by two goals." |
