Alliance Buccaneers Golf earns $750,000 for charity

Sister Benedict of the Laws Street Trade Training Centre in downtown Kingston recently collected a cheque for $750,000 from the organisers of the Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament.

The presentation was made at the November 11 awards function for the tournament by Peter Chin, the captain of the Buccaneers and president of Alliance Investment Management.

Sister Benedict, in receiving the donation, said it would go a far way in allowing the centre to do its annual Christmas treat for the poor. It is usual for the centre to give care and food packages in December and will doing so this year again. She also said that the funds will help to cover the cost of running the trade centre that provides training in sewing and dressmaking, computing and baking for women and men from the surrounding community of downtown Kingston.

The tournament, which attracted 132 competitors at the Caymanas Golf Club, was won by Sean Morris who ended with a combined two-day score of 149. Mark Newnhan and John O'Donoughue were second and third, respectively.

In the men's senior section, Rory Jardine finished ahead of Tommy Lee and Wayne Chai Chong. The men's super senior section went to Patrick Gordon, who won ahead of Dudley Wilson and Guyan Arscott.

Jodi Munn Barrow topped the ladies section with Maggie Lyn and Michelle Gabay finishing second and third, respectively.

Under-13 golfer Justin Burrowes copped the coveted Isabelle Vittoria Marley Trophy for turning in the best result from a junior during the tournament. He posted scores of 74 on day one and 71 on day two for a combined score of 145 or just one over par for the two days. The Under-15 category went to Ethan Jones (181) while Roamaine Evans (169) topped the Under-17 category.

The lone junior female in the tournament was Kei Harris. She ended with scores of 87 and 81 to close on 168 for the two days.

Fabian Campbell won the pro section ahead of Wesley Brown. He shot one under par 71 on Saturday and even par 72 on the final day for a combined 143 score. The pros shared the $130,000 purse.
