WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man who robbed a woman of her handbag was remanded in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday for sentencing next Monday.

Kemar Wellington, 32, from Montego Bay, pleaded guilty on October 30 to larceny from the person. His case was set for November 25, as the judge who had previously heard the case was absent from court.

It is alleged that on October 22, the complainant was walking along Gloucester Avenue when Wellington approached her and grabbed her handbag before running off. McKenzie made an alarm, and Wellington dropped the bag, but was subsequently chased and held by a security officer.

Clerk of courts Natalie Malcolm told Presiding Magistrate Wilson Smith that Wellington's case had previously been set for sentencing before another judge.

"This is a matter for your sister judge, and I have agreed with counsel (Wellington's lawyer, Carl Singh) to set the matter for sentencing on November 25," said Malcolm.
