A policeman has been arrested on suspicion of possession of and dealing in ganja and breaches of the Corrections Act.

Reports are that about 12:30 a.m. yesterday, police personnel at the St Catherine station got information that contraband was being smuggled into the cells.

Upon entering the station, personnel manning the jail area were searched. During the search of the policeman, $30,000 along with ganja was found on him.

He was escorted to his barrack room on the station compound where a quantity of ganja was also found. It was revealed that the drug was cut and packaged as if ready for sale.

He was subsequently placed in custody.

A file has being compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling. As a result, the name of the policeman is being withheld.
