Inferno hopes for wild card

DJ Inferno - File

Jamaican Red Bull Thre3Style entrant, Beresford Hammond, more popularly known as DJ Inferno, rocked the crowd at the Red Bull Thre3Style Competition in Toronto, Canada.

Opening the third night of the competition, he proved to the audience and the judges that Jamaica is more than just the island of Bob Marley and Usain Bolt.

His 15-minute set began with a hip-hop and dancehall base, forcing the crowd to stop and take note. The Toronto-based Jamaicans and West Indian community in the audience were especially receptive to the mix, as he continued to weave his way around the other musical genres he incorporated in his set.

It was a great start to the night. His set also included Major Lazer's popular Buymaye, warning the crowd to 'watch out fi dis!'

Despite DJ Inferno's crowd-pleasing set, the United States representative, Trentino was the one who took the third night home. But all hope is not lost for DJ Inferno as he could be selected as a wild card and qualify to move on to the finals.

The Red Bull Thre3Style competition started out as an underground experiment in 2007 and has since grown into being the world's largest DJ competition.

Competitors are judged based on their performance, technical prowess, originality in song choice, and their ability to work the crowd. Throughout the year competitions are held all over the world and the winners go on to compete in the world finals to see who will be judged the best of the best.
