Jerome Jamaica's Special One

Jerome Waite says his return to Arnett Gardens as head coach is like José Mourinho who returned to Chelsea in England. Waite believes he is Jamaica's 'Special One'.

"Target me as Jamaica's Special One," Waite said, two days after being back in charge of Arnett Gardens senior team.

"It's always good to return to Arnett, it's my home club," he pointed out.

Waite was selected as coach by Arnett Gardens following the resignation of Calvin Lewis earlier this week. Lewis cited personal reasons as his decision to leave.

The team suffered an embarrassing 5-0 defeat to rivals Tivoli Gardens in the Flow Champion Cup semi-final two weeks ago. Now, Waite has been chosen to get the team back on track in order to challenge for trophies this season.

"The whole thing is to get the players focussed, physically, mentally and tactically ready for games," Waite, who was in charge when Arnett won back-to-back titles in 2000-1 and 2001-02 said.

He is fully aware of the difficult task at hand.

"It won't be easy, I am hoping to get them up to par physically. After the first training session on Tuesday, I realised that the fitness level is below 40 percent. We have to get them up to at least 70 percent," Waite said.

"We will also have to work on team discipline and conduct code for players. We will do an evaluation and then make changes, if necessary to determine who we need."

Waite disclosed that his assistant coach is former Charlie Smith and Arnett Gardens tough tackling defender, Eugene 'Big Head' Williams.
