Swayed by God's amazing grace

Evangelist Brian Rochester. - George Henry

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

In 2006, Brian Rochester started his walk with the Lord while he was on his way to Montego Bay, St James.

"While I was on my way to Montego Bay, I heard the song AmazingGrace being played, and from that very moment, my life was transformed," said Rochester.

He said he was spotted by the late Reverend Veron Kinkead, then pastor at the Junction Assemblies of God Church in St Elizabeth, who encouraged him to enrol in the Assemblies of God Bible College in Christiana, Manchester.

Rochester, who is a member of the Gospel True Restoration Ministry denomination in St Elizabeth, confessed that he was a wild individual before he surrendered his life to the Lord. According to him, he was untamed and was doing things without thinking about what he was doing.

However, since his conversion, Evangelist Rochester shared that life for him has had its ups and downs but that the experience with his Maker has been wonderful. He admitted that his life has been changed from one full of negativity to one which is now positive and prosperous.

"The negativity were the things that I did without thinking about what I was doing; but the prosperity aspect is where I now slow down and listen to that sweet, small voice of Jesus. This voice just whispers and tells me clearly the good things that I should do. So my life is now one of elevation from the valley to the top of the mountain. There is no regret," bragged Rochester.

Walking with the Lord

Rochester wants all young people in Jamaica and across the globe to surrender their life to the Lord. According to him, those who are already in the faith and are serving the Lord well must use strategies to get such persons to start walking with the Lord.

"First, you have to understand the young people. You have to understand their mind frame, and you have to give them a small amount of the experience at a time until they are able to digest a larger amount," explained the church leader.

As a young Christian, Rochester is cognisant of the fact that the life of a Christian is a daily walk with Christ. He wants everyone to understand that they should seek to live every second for the Lord, not looking down, but up, so that when the tidal waves of life come, they will know how to react.

He is also recommending that Christians find time to pray and fast so that they will always have strength spiritually to deal with challenges as they arise.

Rochester's favourite Bible verse is Philippians 3:10. His favourite song is Amazing Grace. He admitted that he loves God because God looked on him who was a disgrace and made him what he is today.
