Waterhouse and national midfielder Romario 'Rom Rom' Campbell was released from hospital on Sunday after being admitted and treated for a blood clot close to his lungs. Campbell is expected to be out of action for at least one month. The skilful player sustained an elbow to the chest in his team's Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL game against August Town on October 6 at Waterhouse Stadium. He travelled with the national senior team but was benched for the World Cup Qualifier (WCQ) against USA on October 11. Campbell, however, came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal in Waterhouse's 1-0 win against former club Harbour View in the Flow Champions Cup knockout semi-final on October 13 at Waterhouse Stadium. A week ago, Campbell was also in the squad for Jamaica's final WCQ against Honduras in a 2-2 draw at the National Stadium, but did not feature. Ahead of Waterhouse's training last Thursday, the player complained of feeling pain in the chest and was rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies in Mona, and then transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). "He (Campbell) has been released from KPH yesterday (Sunday) and is resting at home," Junior Francis, coach of Waterhouse senior football team told STAR Sports yesterday. "I think he will be out for another month before going into training as the doctor recommended resting for him to recuperate properly," Francis added. Campbell, who transferred to Waterhouse in the summer, has been creating waves with his dribbling skills, passing, goalscoring ability and movement on and off the ball. He missed his team's 2-1 loss to Tivoli Gardens last Sunday in the RSPL and will also miss the Flow Champions Cup final against the same opponent on October 28 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, starting at 9 p.m. The 23-year-old is the leading goalscorer in the Flow Champions Cup with four goals. He has also scored twice in the RSPL and was rewarded with selection to the national senior team by head coach Winfried Schäfer. |
