Jamaica's athletes bow into action today at the 20th staging of the World Masters Athletics Championships that got under way in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre yesterday.

The championship runs until October 27.

The Jamaicans get going with Deaneth Edwards competing in the preliminaries of the women's 100 metres in the 40-44 age group. Samuel Brevett competes in the men's 100m in the 45-49 age group, Maynard McIntosh will compete in the men's 100m in the 50-54 age group, while Lyndy Headley will compete in the men's 100m in the 70-74 age group.

The finals for all four events will take place on Saturday, October 19.

Edwards, McIntosh, and Brevett will also compete in the 200 metres next week. Oral Anderson competes in the 5000-metre run on Saturday, October 19.

The athletes arrived in Brazil on Monday and have reportedly settled in well.
