Former People's National Party caretaker Thomas Douglas, who was accused of taking money from several people who were seeking visas and overseas employment, has been freed of fraud. Douglas, who was represented by attorney-at-law, Arlene Harrison-Henry, appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last week, and walked out a free man. "No evidence was offered in the mattter, and he was discharged and allowed to walk out a free man," Harrison-Henry told THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday. In 2011, Douglas, who was slated to contest the General Election for the PNP in the Central St Catherine constituency, was taken into custody, and charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence and fraudulent conversion. Allegations were that Douglas reportedly took money from persons who wanted to gain visas and overseas employment as part of the services his company, Excell Job Link, located in Spanish Town, offers. One woman had reported that she forked out $77,000 to the company while another said she handed the company US$2,000. They said they were yet to get any positive word from the business. It was reported that more than 50 people had gone to the station to make reports and were demanding their money back. |
