Jamaica's latest debutante for the senior men's football team, Deshorn Brown, is hoping his performance which saw him play a keen role in the Reggae Boyz first goal during Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Honduras at the National Stadium, will act as a catalyst for him to be given more opportunities. The 22-year-old forward, who plays for US Major League outfit Colorado Rapids, made his debut on October 11 against the United States. "I have been trying to show that I deserve to be here just like any other player, and I have been working hard to try and push myself to the highest that I can go," the former St Elizabeth Technical High School standout shared. "Hopefully, they will look to what I have done in these two games and pay me more attention and try to help me play more for the country." Despite his invitation coming at the tail end of campaign, Brown was grateful for the opportunity to showcase his talent and play in front of the Jamaica public. "I have been waiting from a very long time for the call to the national team and it just happens that they called me at this moment, and I just make use of it and come here and try to help the team as much as I can," Brown said. "It was the last game of the World Cup qualifiers, so we were just pushing ourselves to try and win the match so that Jamaicans can feel all right even though we are not going to make it to the World Cup. Couple mistakes were made in the game and it cost us, but we held our heads up and still came back and scored two goals." Brown has been creating waves in the MLS and is one of the leading contenders for Rookie Of The Year. "I have a lot of confidence going back to Colorado," Brown said. "I have been working hard every day in my MLS training and I am just looking forward to the future and using the MLS for a start and it has been going well." Jamaica endured a disastrous World Cup campaign, finishing at the foot of the hexagonal with a mere four points from 10 games, but Brown believes there is hope for the future if things are put in place from now. "Hopefully, the federation can start building a strong team towards 2018," Brown expressed. "Jamaica's team can be really, really strong if they have the right programme and pick the right players at the right time to come in and work for the country." |
