Fraud Squad detectives probing the recently discovered multimillion-dollar fraud at the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) have indicated that so far, they have discovered that at least $65 million has gone missing. Information also reaching THE STAR is that the main suspect, Marlon Francis, who has been listed since August as a person of interest, is yet to be located and the authorities believe he fled to the United States. According to reports, Francis who works in the accounting department at the JTA, had been employed to the teachers' lobby for more than 18 years. THE STAR gathered that the missing cash uncovered only covers one fiscal year, ending April 2013. Meanwhile, auditors uncovered the scam at the JTA in July when fraudulent claims and fictitious cheques were discovered in the books of the entity. It is reported that some $100 million has been stolen in the scam. The Fraud squad investigation into the high-level fraud continues. - A.W.
