Two men who were held in connection with nine stolen motor vehicles in Brown's Hall, St Catherine, are yet to be charged.

''We are widening our probe in the find, which may result in the arrest of other persons. So, they remain in custody until the investigation is complete,'' a detective told The Star.

The men were held lasst Friday morning after the vehicle they were driving was intercepted by the police and items found in their possession led the police to the stolen motor vehicles.

Meanwhile, the police in St Catherine said there seems to be a thriving car-stealing business in the parish, where persons are able to steal vehicles and have them sold.

It was revealed that the thieves are well organised and operate mostly in the Linstead, Spanish Town, Bog Walk, Ewarton and Portmore areas.

"We realise that these persons are very brazen in their actions. They will steal the vehicle and even advertise it for sale, so when persons turn up they would buy what they think is a bargain, until they are stopped by the police,'' a senior investigator said.

He told The Star that those who are stealing the newer vehicles like the Nissan Tiidas somehow managed to secure documentation to convince the unsuspected buyer.

The Star was told that an intensive investigation is now under way to stem the problem that now exists.

Oftentimes, the culprits would choose deep rural farming communities to conceal their actions.

Meanwhile, the police said that a number of suspects have been taken into custody in connection with various finds, but the practice still continues.
