Bail was denied in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to a woman who is accused of throwing a corrosive substance on another woman in a dispute over a man. Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Taj-Marie Jones of a Corporate Area address. In her previous attendance to court, it was revealed that Jones and the complainant were reportedly involved in a dispute over a man on September 22. It is alleged that during the dispute, the accused reportedly doused the complainant with a caustic substance which resulted in burns to sections of her body. The impact of those burns resulted in the complainant being hospitalised. In court, several scars could clearly be seen on the body of the complainant. The attorney representing Jones begged Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams to grant Jones bail as she was very remorseful and was not a flight risk. The magistrate asked Jones why she had to burn the complainant, to which the attorney gave an explanation. Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams said she was not willing to grant bail since the medical certificate was outstanding. A voluntary plea is also being requested from Jones who was remanded until October 31. |
