Cop allegedly caught with contraband gets bail |

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A policeman who was held with a quantity of contraband at the Spanish Town Police Station lock-up was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. Constable Melbourne Bryan of the Spanish Town Police Station pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green. upstanding citizen His lawyer, Herbert McKenzie, made a successful bail application on his behalf. McKenzie told the court that his client is a person with great potential who was an upstanding citizen that has lived an exemplary life until he was allegedly caught. He told the court that his client can prove his innocence and is a suitable candidate for bail. Allegations are that two Fridays ago the accused was held with a cell phone, tobacco, ratchet knife, lighter and other items trying to go into the cells at the station. Senior personnel held on to him and a file sent to the offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions which ruled that he be charged criminally. |
