Two on larceny charge remanded

Two men who were dragged before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on house-breaking and related charges were remanded Friday.

They are Dane McPherson, charged with housebreaking and larceny, and André Haughton 47, who is charged with receiving stolen property. Both men return to court on October 17.

Allegations are that on September 18, McPherson broke into the complainant's home and was seen leaving with several items by a witness.

The court heard that the stolen items included a television set, a DVD player, a computer monitor, and several pieces of gold and silver jewellery.

The crown is alleging that both accused know each other and that Haughton used his motor car to transport the stolen items to McPherson's home.

It is also alleged that McPherson was transported to a pawn shop in the Corporate Area.

In a futile attempt to get bail for Haughton, attorney-at-law Franklin Grenion argued that his client was a taxi operator and he unknowingly transported the items.

Resident Magistrate Grace Henry McKenzie, however, denied bail, saying his address needed to be verified.
