MARC STAMP, STAR Sports
Innswood High will be aiming for victory against St Mary's College in order to have a chance of advancing from Group G to the quarter-final stage of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup football competition. Both teams will meet at Chedwin Park, today, starting at 3:30 p.m. With Holy Trinity winning the group on 28 points, from 10 preliminary round games, Trench Town (18) and Innswood (15) are engaged in a battle for the runner-up spot. St Mary's College are lying in fourth spot on 10 points, but have no chance of advancing. They are followed by Meadowbrook (5) and Campion College (1). Today's game is very crucial for Innswood as their game against Trench Town last Saturday was not played due to a clash of colours. Both teams appeared in similar jerseys at Chedwin Park, which is Innswood's home venue. ISSA competition officer, George Forbes, when contacted yesterday said his organisation will make an investigation and a ruling should be made today. "Well, the fact that we don't know what the ruling will be for the match against Trench Town, we are treating this game as a final," Milford Thomas, Innswood coach, told STAR SPORTS yesterday. "The team is very focused as they want to make it to the next stage for the second time in a row," Thomas added. St Mary's College, although out of contention, will be hoping to finish as close to the top as possible. Meanwhile, the teams that are already through to the four-group quarter-final stage are: Hydel, Calabar, Excelsior, Denham Town, Wolmer's, Norman Manley, defending champions Gt George's College, Charlie Smith, Jamaica College, Bridgeport, Spanish Town, Kingston College and Holy Trinity. TODAY'S GAMES Innswood vs St Mary's College Tivoli vs St Andrew College Home teams are named first and the games are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. |
