Brian Lara has been confirmed for next year's staging of the Melbourne/Cricket Clubs Activities Committee Twenty20 Cricket Festival. The announcement was made yesterday by Mark Neita, following game two of this year's festival at Melbourne Oval yesterday. "We have already confirmed for next year Brian Lara," said Neita, who along with Wavell Hinds co-chairs the festival's organising committee. "We will also be trying to get other international players of similar quality to come and play as well. "This is in addition to Gayle, Bravo, Pollard and others, who have all expressed an interest in returning, in our attempts to try reignite interest in club and parish cricket in Jamaica." The festival, which was held over two days, saw Jamaica All Stars XI defeating Caribbean All Stars XI by five wickets in the feature game yesterday. Batting first, Caribbean All Stars made 168 for five off 20 overs, with Kieron Pollard making 48 and discarded national openers John-Ross Campbell topscoring with 68. Captain Dwayne Bravo made four, Richie Richardson, eight, retired hurt, Curtly Ambrose, six not out, Courtney Walsh, two not out, and track and field sprinter Yohan Blake, one. This was against Krishmar Santokie, Andre Russell, Yannick Elliott and Wayne Morgan, who claimed a wicket. It was the second win in as many matches for the Jamaican aggregation, who also defeated their regional counterparts on Saturday at Manley Horne Park, St Elizabeth.
