Captain Merissa Aguilleira believes West Indies Women have what it takes to rebound and level their three-match one-day international series against New Zealand Women.

The series, which will see game two being played at Sabina Park today, currently has the visitors leading 1-0.

This is following their dramatic one-run victory in the first encounter on Sunday at Sabina Park.

"We have been in situations like these before, and we have also come out of it," said Aguilleria.

"It's all about applying ourselves and trying and execute in all areas something that we did well in the first game, but not enough," she added.

The opener, which was watched by a near-capacity North Stand crowd, saw New Zealand electing to bat and posting a competitive 225 for eight off their 50 overs.

West Indies, in reply, who started well at 47 without loss, and were in match-winning positions of 179 for four and 205 for five, however, could not transfer their advantageous positions into victory.

Come today, the Sherwin Campbell-coached unit will be hoping for continued good performances from their main players, including Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin and Merissa Aguilleira.

Taylor took four for 19 with her off-spin and made 36, while Dottin and Aguilleira, finishing with top scores of 65 and 43, respectively.

As for New Zealand, the aim will be to win and wrap up the series, which is set to have its final game being played on Thursday.

In light of this, they will again be hoping for standout performances from inspirational captain and opener, Suzie Bates, and fast bowler Nicola Browne, who led their batting and bowling respectively.

Bates made 109, her fifth in one-day cricket, while Browne finished with three for 28.

"It was good to get our first win, and the plan is to put in an improved performance in the second game so as to win the series," said Bates.

"One of the areas we need to improve in is someone from the top five of our batting to bat right through to the end, as it is a hard wicket to get in on.

"We also want to see improvements with the ball, in terms of our bowlers being more consistent, and not bowling too much two-length deliveries."
