An elderly woman who was caught 'trying a ting' will spend the next nine months in jail reflecting after she was sentenced yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with taking steps to export, possession of and dealing in ganja is 47-year-old Ann Marie Morgan of an Ensom City, Spanish Town, address.

Morgan pleaded guilty to all three charges.

The court heard that on September 26, Morgan was detained at the search area at the airport and 21 ounces of ganja was found strapped to her body.

She was on her way to Trinidad.

In a statement from the arresting officer, when cautioned Morgan uttered, "Officer, mi jus a try a ting".

Before the sentencing, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told Morgan, "Don't bother start crying inside here ... why shouldn't you go to jail for this?"

Morgan said, "Your honour, I don't plan on crying ... I don't have anything to say ... it is my first offence ..."

She was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment and fined $11,500 or six months for taking steps to export ganja, $2,100 or six months for possession of ganja and $2,000 or six months for dealing in ganja.
