My boyfriend doesn't want to use a condom

Dear Counsellor:

I am 18 and having problems getting my boyfriend to use a condom. He believes that I asked him to use a condom because I do not trust him. He also said condoms are not sexy. I am confused. What should I tell my boyfriend?

Caring Girlfriend

Dear Caring Girlfriend:

Tell your boyfriend preventing disease does not have anything to do with trust. Many people are infected with HIV and don't even know it. Your boyfriend must know if you both choose to have sex, using a condom is the best protection. Again, a large part of a couple's sexual feelings depends on what they are used to. If your boyfriend, with your support, makes the effort, condoms can be an enjoyable part of sexual activities.
