Humble Lion surged to the top of the standing when they beat Cavalier 2-0 in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) at the Stadium East field yesterday evening.

The goals came from Jermaine Christian in the 38th minute and substitute Denzil Watson (79th).

The Clarendon-based Humble Lion moved to nine points to be sole leaders after starting the round on same points as Waterhouse, Cavalier and Montego Bay United.

slick passes

Humble Lion dominated possession with some slick passes and movement on and off the ball. Captain Wolry Wolfe steered his team from central midfield and was well supported by Jermaine Christian, Sean Coleman and Mark Miller.

They deservedly took the lead from good build-up play when striker Roberto Fletcher relayed a pass to Jermaine Christian who beat Cavalier and national senior team invitee Gariece McPherson.

Cavalier fought back with Jeffrey Henry, Severo Murphy and Donovan Alvaranga, but could not beat Humble Lion's custodian Damion Crooks who made some fine saves. Watson sealed the deal for Humble Lion when he headed home from close range.

Humble Lion's coach Geoffrey Maxwell said his team played an excellent game.

"It was an exceptional display by the team. Total congratulation to the players as we dominated the game," Maxwell said.

Meanwhile, his counterpart David Laylor said:

"It was a hard game to lose. We made two defensive errors. It must be a concern to lose two games in a row but we have time to recover and make the top four."
