A policeman was taken into custody on Friday, after he was reportedly caught with contraband at the Spanish Town police lock-up in St Catherine.

The constable was caught with grabba, tobacco, 10 lighters and a ratchet knife in a package, THE STAR understands.

It is reported that the policeman was held by one of his sub officers as he attempted to smuggle the items inside. He was taken into custody on suspicion of breaches of the Corrections Act, the Dangerous Drugs Act and the Corruption Prevention Act.

The police said the cop's name is being withheld pending completion of the investigations. The Star was, however, informed that the suspect has been a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force for the past three years.
