Holy Trinity High tag Trench Town

MARC STAMP, STAR Sports

Holy Trinity High tagged Trench Town High 3-1 in a Group G encounter in the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup football competition preliminary round at the Bell Chung Oval yesterday.

The Holy Trinity team scored courtesy of a brace by Nicholas Hamilton in the 13th and 64th minute, and another goal by Shamar Dillon in the 25th minute. Shamar Nicholson pulled a goal back for Trench Town in the 70th minute.

Holy Trinity scored early when Dillon was fouled inside the 18-yard area. The penalty kick was slotted past Trench Town goalkeeper Jovane Jordine. Dillon added another goal when he lobbed the advancing goalkeeper for Holy Trinity to end the half 2-0. Holy Trinity went further ahead when Hamilton ran onto a long punt from goalkeeper Sean-Dean Daley and beat Jordine with a toe-poke.

Trench Town pulled back a goal through Nicholson. The winners went on the defensive and held on for a victory that pushed them closer to a spot in the second round. Holy Trinity lead the group with 19 points from three games, seven ahead of second-place Trench Town.

Holy Trinity's central defender Renardo Nelson received a second yellow card and was sent off in the game.

The games involving St Catherine teams were postponed by ISSA due to the inclement weather affecting the island.
