The Jamaica Public Sservice (JPS) is reporting that crews carrying out oper-ations in sections of St Catherine last week removed 325 illegal connections from the JPS infrastructure. Almost half of these electrical wires were taken down in the Orangefield and Old Harbour Bay - (Budho Lane and Dagger Bay) communities. The other communities in which the teams found the illegal wires included Jericho, Gregory Park, Penn Way, and Greater Portmore (Myrtle Way). Coming out of these operations, two persons were arrested for the illegal abstraction of electricity and eight others - among them five women summoned to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on November 26. This is the second consecutive week in which JPS crews have removed over 300 illegal connections from the grid in St Catherine communities. The JPS is appealing to persons to avoid the consequences of arrest, including a bad police record. The public is being reminded that the company is eager to work with non-regularised persons to help meet their energy needs. Persons who are not regularised should go to the nearest customer service office to make arrangements to do so. |
