Three security guards who are charged in connection with the disappearance of $12 million from a vehicle they were travelling in were granted bail when they appeared in court yesterday. Michael Whittingham, Garry Cowans and Junior Williams, are charged with larceny. Cowans was offered a $1.5 million bond, while Whittingham and Williams were each offered $2 million bail. They are to report to the Rockfort, Matildas Corner and Spanish Town police stations, respectively. The matter will again be mentioned on December 3. The men were defended by attorneys-at-law Courtney Maxwell, Patrick Peterkin and Barry Frankson. Maxwell, in applying for bail, said his client Cowan was the driver of the guard truck. He said Cowans did not come out of the vehicle but was later told a bag containing the money was missing. It was subsequently reported to the company. A report was subsequently made to the police and Williams and Whittingham were picked up and charged with larceny. - R.T. |
