Danza Hyatt, captain of St Catherine CC, believes that the University of Technology (UTech) was intimidated by his team's strong batting line-up, as they helped themselves to the Jamaica Cricket Association JAMT20 Championships title yesterday.

The Saints, as they are commonly called, triumphed in the final after registering a 68-run win at Kensington Park.

Sent in to bat, St Catherine showed that firepower straightaway, posting a challenging 214 for five off their allotted 20 overs.

They then returned to restrict UTech to 146 for nine.

"I thought we won the game with the bat from the way we played yesterday (Saturday) in the semi-finals," said Hyatt.

"I knew most of the UTech guys stayed back and watched us make over 250 runs against JDF, and figured they would be worried about our strong batting line-up.

"It therefore came as little surprise when they won the toss and decided to send us in.

"But thankfully our batsmen were again up to the task, and we were able to score over 200 runs again."

Morgan, who was scoring his third 50 in succession after returning from league cricket in England, scored four sixes and four fours in making a top score of 65.

Russell, in the meantime, hit 55, inclusive of six sixes and two fours.

This was against Damian Williams, who ended with two for 36 and Davian Johnson, one for 32.

UTech, in the meantime, were undermined by the combination of spin of Andre Henry, Tamar Lambert, and Gavin Wallace.

Leg-spinner Henry claimed two for 12, Lambert, two for 18, and former West Indies 'A' leg-spinner Gavin Wallace, two for 26.

Cassius Burton with 45 and Andrew Richardson 20 finished as UTech's best performers with captain Jon-Ross Campbell scoring 18.

"We definitely lost it in the field," said Campbell.

"We dropped some catches, which in the end cost us.

"But that's how it goes sometimes. It's just hard luck. We just have to regroup and try to come back again next year."

St Catherine also made it to the final last year, but were defeated by Manchester.
