MI NAH SAY A THING! |
|||||
Ahh my people, how unnu doing? Whole heap a things a gwaan a yard and abroad eh! There's so much happening right now that I don't even know where to start and what to talk about. I feel like talking about everything. I'm acutely aware of the fact though, that when people try to talk about everything they invariably end up actually talking about nothing. So, mi nah say nothing, because, as unnu done know, everything is everything. I could talk a thing or two in relation to the upcoming face off between Audley Shaw and Andrew Holness for the leadership of the JLP, but I get the sense that the best is yet to come in that drama, so me nah say a thing just yet. It bound to get sweeter. Really and truly, I could also comment on that story which made it to the front page of yesterday's STAR about the much talked about viral video of a turban wearing man who appears to be a Rastafarian, enthusiastically performing importance That video and that story also quickly paled in significance for me. It lost all importance even before I read about the terrorist attack that reportedly killed approximately 62 people including children in a shopping mall in Nairobi, Kenya. Now, that is something worthy of deep reflection. But it's so overwhelming. It was numbing and heart wrenching to read some of the details of the seemingly senseless attack, and the one tiny but weighty word that keeps reverberating in my head is simply 'Why?' Although I spoke about it last week, I could also still say a whole heap of things on the ongoing debate about proposals to develop the Goat Islands as part of larger plans for a major logistic hub. But here's the thing - a lot of people have said a lot of things thus far, but the Government of Jamaica is not really saying enough. Yeah, we hear a lot of repetition of certain buzz words like 'plans' or 'proposals' and 'study'. We hear about impressive sounding figures like 'US$1.5 million in investment', and we hear a whole heap about that sometimes problematic but beautifully promise-filled term 'development'. firm decisions But the country is kind of in the dark about what is actually being considered and what has already been signed off. Wha really a go dung? Is that we really want to know, because what we still not hearing is any clear or definitive word on whether or not any firm decisions have already been made. According to a brief story by Jovan Johnson in yesterday's Gleaner, The Jamaican Environment Trust (JET) is calling on the Government to tell Jamaicans whether it has already made a decision to have the Goat Islands used as the site for a major industrial development. The headline said "Come Clean on Goat Islands, JET tells Govt". Of course, when I read that headline and my wonderfully warped and mischievous mind went all over the place with a multiplicity of funny but totally inappropriate interpretations, but I reined in the madness because I basically agree with the folks at JET. The Government has a lot of things to say to us the people. So I wait - not patiently, to hear more. After that, I shall 'tun up' the commentary and talk up the things. Yeah, mi ah talk about everything and since everything is everything, including nothing, you never know. I might just nuh say anything! box-mi-back@hotmail.com |
