Cumberland High recorded an upset 2-1 victory over former Group B leaders Excelsior High in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup competition yesterday.

Brandon Weller (21st) and Ryan Maxwell (85th) were the goal scorers for the Wayne Fraser-coached Cumberland.

The victory moved Cumberland to four points. Norman Manley High lead the group with 11 points, one ahead of Excelsior and St Jago High who are both locked on 10 points respectively. They are followed by Waterford High (four) and bottom place Haile Selassie High (three).

In the day's other games, Norman Manley blanked Haile Selassie 3-0 and St Jago beat Waterford 3-1.

Fraser said he was delighted with his team's first victory of the season which was achieved on the school's ground.

"We have to give thanks and praise to the Father for getting our first win of the season," said Fraser.

"We had a plan for this game and it worked out for us because we needed the three points to move forward and keep close to the leaders," Fraser said.

In Group E, leaders Jamaica College (JC) registered a 3-1 win over Bridgeport High. Raffique Bryan, Malik Foster and Stephan Logan were the scorers for the Miguel Coley-coached JC. Ryan Swire scored the consolation goal for Bridgeport.

JC lead the group with 15 points. They are followed by Bridgeport and José Marti who are locked on 10 points each, Ardenne High and St Andrew College on three points each and Tivoli Gardens, who are still without a point from five matches.
