Stadium East a big plus for Wolmer's

Ludlow Bernard, head coach of Wolmer's Boys, believes that their decision to play home games at the Stadium East field will certainly help his team in their quest to win this year's ISSA/LIME Manning Cup competition.

Bernard told STAR Sports that their home field at Heroes Circle is currently under renovation, thus the switch to the Stadium East facility which is a much bigger field.

"The completion of the renovation should have taken place a couple of weeks ago but the contractor who is dealing with it has an arrangement with Independence Park," Ludlow said. "And so what he has done to compensate us for the lack of use of our facility is that he has made the Stadium East field available to us.

"It is a good pitch to play on and it is a big field, and we figure more or less that in the latter stages of the competition, we will be playing on pitches like this and so it will be good preparation for us too," Bernard said.

Wolmer's were beaten by eventual champions St George's College in the semi-final of last year's competition at the Constant Spring Sports Complex.

However, they won the Walker Cup Cup knockout competition last year after beating Jamaica College 1-0 in the final.

Bernard added that they will be using the Stadium East facility to acclimatise themselves to playing on bigger fields.

"The surface is kind of heavy and the weight of passing is a little different and the bounce is also a bit different for us. It will definitely help us this season not only the games down the line, but also for the games coming up, because we want to maintain our form right to the end of the competition," said Bernard.

"We are definitely preparing ourselves to get to the quarter-final and semi-final stage of the competition," Bernard pointed out.
