GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer
There was some amount of excitement in the rural community of Harwood in Sanguinetti, Clarendon, on Sunday when the owner of a female goat and other residents saw its offspring and insisted that it resembled a human. Sharon Smith told THE WEEKEND STAR that her female goat gave birth to two kids but there was something unusual about one of them. "The one which was born first had a head which resembled that of a man. The head had hair like goats usually do when they are just born, but it looked like a human head, and the body had no hair - just like when the baby of a human is born," said Smith. The unusual looking animal, which died before birth, was closely examined by several residents. A number of them insisted that tests be done to determine whether it had any relation to a human. Smith, who has been rearing goats for many years, said it was the first time she had ever seen an animal with facial features resembling a human. impregnated by human "Whenever a goat kid is born, it has hair all over its body. This kid had none on the body but had hair on the head section. When I looked at the kid, the first thing that came to my mind was that it looked like a human baby and that the mother may have been impregnated by a human. The other kid looks like a real goat and is doing fine, so, too, is its mother," said Smith. One resident was convinced that bestiality occurred. Like many others, he, too, called for tests to be conducted to determine if a man was the father of the animal. But a veterinarian from Noah's Ark Veterinarian Clinic in Kingston explained that it was not possible for a man to impregnate a goat. "The kid had a deformity, and that's why it looked that way. Its genes were decoded incorrectly. It is not possible for human sperm to fertilise a goat's egg. It would not survive. Genetically, the species are too far apart," he said. |
