A total transformation is taking place at 69 Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston, as cricketer Chris Gayle will be turning the space once occupied by Club Riddim into a new hotspot called Triple Century Sports Bar.

Earlier, there were reports that the spot would be a nightclub, but manager for the soon-to-be-opened sports bar, Radcliffe Haynes, rubbished these claims.

The location operated under the Asylum brand for several years and was renamed The Building in 2009 when it was taken over by businessman Corey Todd, and his business partner, popular dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel. However, following the pair's split in 2011 the venue was renamed to Club Riddim.

But Haynes says the venue is being transformed and will not remind patrons of a nightclub or the former names.

"We have transformed it totally, it's a totally different place. That's why we doing it as a sports bar and not a club," he told THE STAR, adding that it would be open to the public in another three weeks.

In addition, "Chris Gayle wanted somewhere that he could entertain his friends at his own place," he said.

While it is not a nightclub, Haynes said Chris Gayle's birthday party will be held there on Saturday (September 21) and it will also host selected events.

But Haynes says they are targeting sports enthusiasts and persons who want to have a good time.

"The ambience is going to be different - the latest technology and we are strong on service. It's a total package, a family package," he said.

He said there will be more than a dozen flat-screen TVs, big screens, state-of-the-art lighting, Internet access and other amenities. He said the venue will also be set up to accommodate large groups and families, and will also have a VIP area.

With good service high on the list of priorities, Haynes said food is also very important. He said there will be Jamaican and Indian dishes, as well as the regular pasta dishes, cakes and burgers. He was, however, tight-lipped about the planned signature dishes.

"It's a Jamaican feel with an international flavour," he said.

"We want to give service of the highest standard. Our customers must feel welcomed and special."
