Francois Swaby of Sporting Central Academy will be carrying the fight for the Clarendon-based unit as they seek to create an impact in the 2013-2014 Red Stripe National Premier League. The speedy forward started the season on a high in helping his team defeat defending champions Harbour View 2-0 on Sunday at their new venue, Juici Oval. Swaby sealed the win with a solo effort in the 69th minute after Gregory Lewis had given Sporting a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Swaby was happy for the victory. " It was a good win playing against the defending champions," he said. "Our plan going in the game was to play as a team and stop (Harbour View) from playing their game and it worked for us. My plan was to give my all, try to help the team the best I can and score a goal. In the end, I accomplished all that." Swaby is leading the attack for Sporting this season after the departure of the club's former top marksman, Levaughn Williams, for Portmore United. "Well, for sure, more pressure is going to be placed on me to score more goals but I am fully fit and I am up to the challenge," Swaby replied when quizzed about Williams' departure. Swaby scored eight goals last season but missed the latter part of the campaign due to an ankle injury. He is now fully recovered and expects to be one of his club's top players, once he remains fit. "I am aiming to score at least 15 goals this season," he said. "With the help of my teammates, I am confident that I can do that." The wily forward said the vibes is right in the camp, and they will look to chalk up their second consecutive victory when they journey to St James next Sunday to face Montego Bay United. Swaby said: "The spirits are high in the camp. Montego Bay are always hard to play at their home ground but we are going there with the aim of coming away with three points." |
