Defending champions St George's College blanked Donald Quarrie 2-0 to record their second-consecutive victory in Group D of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Associations (ISSA)/LIME Manning Cup competition at the Bull Bay Complex yesterday.

Amoy Brown and Stephan Gilzene were on target in the first half for the Neville Bell-coached St George's College. In the group's other game, Camperdown beat Charlie Smith 3-1 and Vauxhall and Oberlin played to 1-1 draw.

At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, the Christopher Bender-coached Camperdown humbled former champions Charlie Smith. The winners went ahead courtesy of an own goal from Charlie Smith defender Odane Samuels in the 5th minute. Andre McCatty (18th) and Kevin Clarke (32nd) then completed the scoring for Camperdown. Charlie Smith's consolation goal came from Samuels in the 75th minute.

The victory moved Camperdown to seven points from three games in Group D, dubbed the group of 'death'. Charlie Smith remain on four points also from three games. Defending champions St George's are also on seven points and lead the group on a superior goal difference.

"Tactically, we got it right in the first 45 minutes. Everything was working according to plan up to that point," Bender said.

"We need to learn how to manage games like this. We dominated the game and could have scored more goals but we were let down by a lack of concentration," Bender reasoned.

At Deanery Road, St Catherine edged hosts Kingston Technical 1-0 to register their second win from three matches in Group C. Ricardo McNeish netted the lone goal for the Anthony Patrick-coached St Catherine in the 10th minute. Meanwhile, the group's other game between Wolmer's and Clan Carthy was not played because of an unprepared field.

Patrick, who led Bridgeport to the Manning Cup title in 2001 and 2006, was satisfied with the three points but said his team needed to improve.

"We are very happy for the three points. However, I think it was an ugly game from us because we are making too many mistakes," Patrick said.
