Man denies selling phone to 15-y-o |
|||||
There was a huge outburst of laughter in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday after an accused man told the court that he was not guilty of an offence, because if he was, he would have admitted to it. Charged with obtaining money by false pretence is Cecil Williams of a Kingston address. Allegations are that on June 25, Williams approached the 15-year-old complainant at his school's basketball court, and told him that he could sell him an iPhone 4S for $21,000. A payment was made and after several attempts, the complainant has yet to receive the cash or phone. Williams, however, denied the allegations stating, "Your Honour, I don't know anything about that!" he said. Laughter erupted in the courtroom when Williams stated, "the ID parade said it happened at the school, I was in MoBay at the time. Your Honour, if it was me, I would tell you I did it." He also told the court that it could not be him, as he is well known by members of the school's administrative staff, as they are also his church members to which there was much laughter again. "The principal of the school is my pastor, I didn't do it, 90 per cent of the school knows me!" When Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Williams how long he has been a Christian he responded, "I've been a Christian for seven years now, I've found Jesus! Hallelujah, Praise the Lord!!" His request for bail was denied, a fingerprint order was made, and he is to return to court for trial on October 3. |
